Fifteen minutes to the East of  Edwardia  Hawks Nest  Road provides an other-worldly drive through one of Kanawinka's historical Lava  flows.   Towards  the Eastern end of the Road, in areas of large manna gums you will likely see Koalas in their natural habitat.

After re-entering the highway another interesting back-road to Camperdown, begins on the left at Pomborneit. This will take you past some  excellent and atmospheric examples of dry-stone fencing,   walls of basalt where the lava flow is raised 20-30 feet above the surrounding land, Mount Porndon,  and on past Lake Purrumbete  and its Lake Edge Cafe  where you can watch water birds over lunch or coffee and cakes.

Lava Flow

This is one of the best places in the world to see volcanic Tumuli, which form when blisters within a lava flow  explode.
